He keeps his residence with his family in Jestetten (Germany) and wants to commute daily. Social security liability Obligation to pay social security contributions: • General rule: place of employment • Special case health insurance: • Principle: insurance at the place of employment, benefits at the place of residence • Cross-border commuters from Germany, France, Italy, and Liechtenstein have the right to choose which insurance they wish to be subject to • Non-working family members of cross-border commuters from other EU countries are also partially subject to Swiss regulations • Special regulation: • Home office-25% rule applies in the case of Switzerland and an EU or EFTA member state • Teleworking regulation 50% Sample A German employee commutes every day from his home in Lörrach (Germany) to Basel (Switzerland).
