September 22, 2022 Global Mobility: Spending the winter abroad? - Defying rising heating costs with remote work. Corona crisis. Energy crisis. Economic crisis? - Well, the latter is not quite here yet. In view of the announced and already implemented increases in energy and heating prices, it is a great option for internationally mobile knowledge workers to spend the dark winter months in a warm climate and work remotely from there. Book a flight. Reserve accommodation. Pack your bag. It could be that simple to spend the next few months working as a "digital nomad" at vacation destinations. A few years ago, this was not as easy, but today, thanks to the newly introduced visa categories for "global nomads", it is no longer a problem to obtain a suitable and, above all, long-term visa in many countries. Portugal, Colombia, Uruguay, Thailand, and Cyprus can be mentioned here as examples. All of them are quite pleasant destinations to spend the winter there. If this is an option for you, however, there are a few legal parameters to consider. Taxes, social insurances, labor law and the like must be checked for each individual case, so that the stay abroad will be legally compliant. Hier seien exemplarisch nur Portugal, Kolumbien, Uruguay, Thailand und Zypern genannt. Allesamt recht angenehme Destinationen, um dort zu überwintern. Steuern, Sozialversicherungen, Arbeitsrecht und dergleichen mehr müssen anhand des konkreten Einzelfalls geprüft werden, damit sich Arbeitnehmer und Arbeitgeber während des Auslandsaufenthaltes rechtskonform verhalten.
